While others remain in Rastingdrung, a small party boards the green dragon boat once again and sail through the sewers to the Catacombs. They are beset by insects, and now know that the blood and offal pouring into the water is the runoff from the Porcelain Abbatoir’s sacrificial altars and sites of holy butchery. Giant flies with emerald eyes descend to feed, and a giant moth flaps by.
At the catacombs the Fleishguild have posted a renewed guard. A butcher-priest curses Aeris with a growth of skin over their eyes, leaving them blinded. Caenn clears the room with a fireball, while one foe trips over an invisible Erebos and strikes his head on the wall, fatally.
They meet Xaadu, a daemon formed of naked arteries and veins, which drinks the blood of the slaughtered Zyanese and addresses the party politely. It cures Aeris in a show of good faith, and asks for their help in finding the Heart of Haldicar, a fabulous ruby held by the guild, but only reachable by the use of priestly magic.
Followng Xaadu’s instructions, they recover the item but suffer greatly in the process, and the daemon rejoices and takes its leave. They discover another mysterious gem and its curious effects: The Carnal Star.
Amalkus returns to vex them, and they speak briefly to the shade before banishing him to the hinterlands once more; he reveals that he and his men are forced into obedience by a written contract held by the Fleischguild. Caenn vows to find and destroy the contract.
I’ve left out a lot here as much of this session was just going through encounters in the module, which is good, and you should play it!
Caenn was always the quickest of the group to take on new responsibilities, which in time will encompass the fate of a dead world.
